Business Capture Toolkit

Let's start this with some basic guidance points.

  1. Although the materials and information here are good practices,  whether it is good for you and your organization is a completely different question and one that should be given careful consideration.

  2. The aim here is to produce a toolkit that is simple to understand, easy to use, and explains what to do step by step. If it does not meet these criteria then inform us so we can make it better!

  3. One reason for simplicity is that it is recognized that most organizations will add their own slant to the process, require modifications to the templates, and add additional processes & templates. So a simple starting point makes for less modifications.

  4. This has been produced from experiences in the Information Technology industry, although they are applicable for many other types of project.

  5. This can be used for an internal IT organization or an external services IT organization.

  6. If all your projects used this toolkit appropriately they would be more controlled than many in the IT industry (this is a sad but true statement).

  7. "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" (otherwise known as "The PMBOK Guide"1) from the Project Management Institute provides a good framework within which this toolkit can sit.

The toolkit consists of a simple work process flow with various outputs.  The outputs can be accessed from the process diagram or the template explanation page.
